A Tinerbell affair

We had a birthday party for Ava today. She wanted a Tinkerbell cake, and so that is what she got. She had lots of fun opening her presents...especially all the many small presents Aunt Kate wrapped for her! She ripped them open, piece by piece, handing each piece to daddy to throw away. Funny girl. Needless to say, it took her awhile. After presents, we colored Tinkerbell coloring sheets, at some lunch and had cake and ice cream. Oh, and somewhere in between, we had a race of the hot wheels. Maybe someone can send me pics of this, as I did not get any (HINT, HINT!).

"Look, it's Tinkerbell!"

She was pretty excited about her fuzzy slippers.

Daddy was playing picnic with her, which, of course, she thought was very silly.

Maddox did pretty good containing his excitement, but he did have to help her a little with the present opening!

Mr. Mess

Kade found a new trick. He thought it was funny. Me, not so much...but I did have time to grab my camera!

Summer fun

We finally had a week off for a change. We spent time crafting, splashing at the 'water park' and playing outside.

Birthday Girl

Happy 3rd birthday to our little Ava. She is growing up so fast. She had a fun day today. We went to the park in the morning, splashed in the pool after naps, and ate brownies before bed!

Why is everyone looking at me?

Outrigger Island-VBS 2008

This year I decided to help out again with the crafts for our church's VBS, only this time I am the director. Sunday was a little scary, as only one of my helpers showed up to set up and get ready for the next day. Yikes. I was a bit stressed. Thankfully, Monday came, and everyone else showed up. My helpers have been awesome. We are ready for each day a day ahead, and so far each craft has run with few bumps. And to top it all off, I've been able to have Maddox in one of my classes. That was a fun surprise. All three of the kids are enjoying their activities everyday. Though they will be ready to crash next week as we rest up for our next big adventure of the summer...Colorado.

My Post: The Craft Cabana. Can you find Maddox?

Maddox's class, the 4 yr. olds, lining up for closing.

The 4's, 5's and K's motioning their song for the parents on Family Night. Look for the red star; you'll find Maddox.

Maddox in the sea of green shirts.

My Aunt came back

Brent's sister, Carissa, came home for a week to visit. In that week we packed in the work and fun. Monday, we went to the water park. Maddox got to go down the big slide! Tuesday, we froze about 20 dz. corn and celebrated Carissa's belated birthday. Wednesday, we had a girls afternoon out. Thursday, it was dinner at our house. Friday, we made 2 1/2 bushels of summer apples into applesauce. Saturday, Brent and I went to Wichita and got some tile for our kitchen (that's very exciting)!! Sunday, I set up for VBS after church and then we had dinner with the Sweigart family one last time before Carissa left on Monday. That was a busy week. Oh, but don't worry, this week is busy too.

Happy Birthday to Ava, early! Her Aunt Carissa surprised her with a Tinker Bell costume for her birthday. She was tickled pink!

No more mud!

We finally got around to adding a sidewalk to the back. Brent was tired of hearing himself complain about the mud!

Brent's dad came and helped him pour it. They did a good job, but I don't have a picture of the finished product yet. Ooops.

The kids put their hand prints in the slab in the back (that one is for the new shed).

A boomin' 4th

A 4th of July picnic in the backyard...our first.

Kade's reaction to daddy's fireworks!

Not so sure I approved of this!! Pretty sure that's why there are lots of kids in the ER on the 4th...

Maddox had to hold his nose when he was around these particular fireworks!

What an action shot!

Enjoying the spectacular show, made of up of last year's leftovers!

We walked down the the little fair that Newton puts on every 4th. The kids had fun seeing all the rides (I'm sure yet another reason the ER's are busy?...). They got to ride on their 1st ferris wheel and loved every slow pass of it!

Enjoying the firework show. This was the first year we got close enough to sit on a blanket to enjoy them. We will definitely do that again. It was a lot of fun. And I'm sure most of you would be jealous that you didn't get the sound effects we had-Ava going, "BOOM!" after every one!

Don't we look so lost in the glory?!

Kade goes under the knife

Here we are at the surgery center, July 2, Aunt Carissa's birthday. Kade had surgery that day to remove a cyst of some sort in his neck. It was there since birth, something that would never go away, and was infected and would continue to get infected from time to time. So, they opted to take it out.

Surgery went well. It only took them 15 minutes from the time we left Kade to when the doctor came to tell us the results! Thankfully, it did not go very deep, so he could remove it quickly. Kade was pretty sleepy when they took us to him.

By late afternoon, he was back to normal. That kid didn't skip a beat. Though he was a bit more tired the next day. He never once tried to pick at the incision, which helped it heal quite nicely. Two weeks later and he's back to normal, with an all clear from the doc. Glad that's over.

Exploring new places

One of the many fun things we did while my mom was visiting was go to Exploration Place, a children's museum of sorts. The kids had fun running around the large castle facade, playing on the mini roller coasters, dropping dragons down the shoot, dressing up in medieval garb, and getting 'lost' in the shuffle.

Well, the getting lost part was not so much fun for some of us. We decided to end our adventures with a twist of drama. As we were rounding us the kiddos to leave, I noticed that Maddox was missing. I looking all throughout the castle and toddler areas, with no trace of him. It was after I quickly searched the entire museum with no luck, that I began my hyperventilating. As panic set in, people began to circle around me, trying to find out what was wrong.

After many frantic passes throughout the place, employees sending walkie talkie messages, an entire museum on lock-down and lots of "Maddox" being chanted, he was found; not lost at all in fact. The woman who found him, said he was happily playing in the water where he was supposed to be. When we asked him if he heard his name being called, his response was, "It didn't sound like you. I thought it was someone else's mommy". He was also very confused that grandma and mommy were so upset, for he was never lost. "Why are there two of you crying?" I can sit here now and write up a humorous recap, but at the time, it was terrifying. I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon, if ever. I am very thankful it was just a little boy in his own little world.

A visit from Grandma

My mom came to visit for 10 days or so. We played in the pool in the backyard, got lost at Exploration Place, got nuggets instead of cheeseburgers at 'old' McDonald's (their mistake...devastating), splashed at the water park, found Buzz at the local antique store, went in for some surgery, tried out the new slip 'n slide, had a girl's day out at the spa, shot off some fireworks and watched some, at fair popcorn, and just had a good ol' time. Here are some highlights, not otherwise posted.

Truckin' it up to MN for a Birky Reunion

We drove up the Minnesota for the Birky reunion in June. We saw lots of family, took 4-wheeler rides, roasted marshmallows over campfires, sang, ate, had a scavenger hunt, went on a scenic hay-ride, ate some more, played games, but didn't sleep too much. We had a busy, but fun weekend. Here are a few pics of the kids, but there are more on my web album.

Father's Day

So I'm catching up a bit. It has been awhile since I've had the chance to post any pictures, and I have a ton, so I better get busy. These are some from Father's day. Maddox and Kade had fun swimming with daddy. Maddox is a fish. He loves the water.
